The Fallacy of Plastic Recycling: Lessons from East Palestine, Ohio

Description: Jess Conard lived through the disaster in East Palestine, OH last year, when a train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed, caught fire, and exposed thousands to harmful pollution. She will visit the Campus Theatre in Lewisburg on Wed, April 24, 7-830pm to talk about her experience. She’ll detail the risks of chemical manufacturing and review the proposal by Texas-based Encina for a toxic chemical and plastics plant near the Susquehanna River in Point Township.  

This event is open to the public. Admission is free. There will be a Q&A with invited panelists after Conard’s talk. 
 
Jess Conard is an East Palestine, Ohio resident and Appalachia Director for Bennington College-based national organization Beyond Plastics.
Organized by faculty and students in the Department of Environmental Studies and Sciences at Bucknell University.
